From the standard installation on a accommodation, via a fully automated installation via the modules supplied by your hosts, to the installation of WordPress in the room, you will find in this tutorial, simple solutions to install WordPress.

WordPress can be installed in several ways, the most common are:

  • on his server
  • via hosting modules

This article will detail one by one, these 3 installation procedures, you can click on the links in the above list to access the installation that interests you.

The detailed facilities here only concern WordPress in self-healed, you can view the difference by reading WordPress.org or WordPress.com.

Install WordPress on a Server

WordPress prides himself on being famous for its installation in 5 minutes ! Beforehand, you must have accommodation with a database and PHP, here are the minima required:

  • PHP in version greater than or equal to 7.3 ;
  • MySQL in version greater than or equal to 4.1.2 ;
  • Apache with the mod_rewrite module.

Go to fr.wordpress.org and download the latest version of WordPress and de-zip it to your hard drive, then create a database for WordPress on your server, so that MySQL has all the privileges in access and in modification.

Submit WordPress files via FTP (Filezilla) to the desired location on the server:

  • If you want to place WordPress at the root of your domain (for example http://www.monsite.com/), move all the content of the decompressed WordPress directory (excluding the directory itself) to the root of your server ( usually www or web)
  • If you want to place your WordPress installation in a subdirectory of your website (for example: /monsite.com/blog/), rename the WordPress directory with the name you have chosen for the subdirectory and move to your server

From your web browser, launch the WordPress installation script :

  • If you installed WordPress on the root: /monsoite.com/wp-admin/install.php
  • in the case of a sub-directory called blog: /monsite.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
  • in case of 1st installation, you can simply type the URL of your site and the script will launch on its own

The manual WordPress installation proper :

  • The installation begins with the creation of the configuration file (wp_config.php). It is essential because it contains the various information that will allow PHP scripts to connect to the database to save and retrieve the contents of the blog (articles, pages, comments, etc.).
  • A prior warning indicates the procedure to follow in the event of a problem linked to permissions. It is precisely to avoid this kind of unfortunate situation that we must be vigilant in this area. Indeed, sometimes the rights are not good. It is therefore necessary to go through the ftp and modify the rights in 755 or 777 for the time of installation, then go back to 644.
  • All information relating to the database is that provided by the hostel. The proposed table prefix wp_ is generally kept, it is advisable to change it (as agreed) for safety reasons.
  • Once this information has been validated, WordPress confirms that it has been able to create the configuration file and that the installation will be able to start.

Once clicked on “Let’s go !”, the script asks you for the information in your database:

If the information for connection to the database is OK, then the script offers you to switch to the installation itself:

Enter the information necessary for your WordPress, namely: site title, administrator’s identifier (login), choose a real password, enter the administrator’s email and say yes or no to the search engines:

Once done, WordPress congratulates you and offers to connect. It is always possible to connect to the administration space accessible by the URL https://monsite.com/wp-login.php or ttps://monsite.com/wp-admin/
